The South Clare railway works have been commenced at Miltown Malbay. Several landowners who refused to accept the offer of Mr. Murphy MP. are now willing to do so, and some have already given up the land through which the line is to run. A cargo of 300 tons of rails has been landed at Cappa Pier, and a large number of car man have been employed drawing the rails to the different working points of the line.

MR MARKHAM OF Miltown-Malbay died and was interred recently. Soon after the body, with coffin, was mysteriously abstracted from the grave and afterwards found standing upright between two posts in the vicinity.
Women of Miltown Malbay – fair play to them – 1887

Two hundred and fifty women at Miltown Malbay, County Clare, lately baffled a force of police, bailiffs, and sheriffs. The posse came to seize cattle for rent. The women made prisoners of the peelers and bailiffs, while their husbands drove the cattle away.
